The South Downs Suite / The Monarch’s Way
Celebrating the South Downs in words, music and art
13 – 29 July 2023
Throughout the Petworth Festival from 12 – 29 July, Kevis House Gallery will show Polly Dutton’s South Downs Suite paintings, as well as new work by Gary Cook and Piers Ottey, under the title ‘The Monarch’s Way’.
The South Downs Suite is a new collection of compositions inspired by the South Downs and composed by the four composer/musicians of The Full Circle Quartet.
The Full Circle Quartet are: saxophonist Josephine Davies, voted best instrumentalist in the 2019 Parliamentary Jazz Awards; the BAFTA Award winning television composer and pianist Joss Peach; bass player and composer Terry Pack; and drummer Angus Bishop.
The integrated concert of The South Downs Suite in Petworth on Thursday 13 July 2023 will feature poet Mandy Pannett's new series of poems about the South Downs, incorporated into the music. Polly Dutton's paintings will be shown on screen, paintings that have been generated by her response to the words and sounds from this collaboration.
The South Downs Suite performance is a Petworth Festival event. Tickets can be booked here:
Gary Cook and Piers Ottey’s works have been created around The Monarch’s Way path which crosses the South Downs south of Petworth.
