Rebecca Jewell - British Birds, After Frohawk

£0.00

Mixed media, gilded and printed labels on black silk in a gilded frame

63.5 x 86.4 cm (frame)

NOT FOR SALE

“I made this piece in 2014 after spending some time in Malta monitoring the illegal hunting of birds. I wanted to allude to both the beauty of, but also the precarious status of, our birdlife. I printed their portraits on labels, signifying how if we do not protect our birds, species could become extinct, and exist only as labelled museum specimens.

The drawings are taken from illustrations by Frederick William Frohawk (1861-1946), a British zoologist.”
