SARAH MANDER
Sarah Mander is an artist printmaker with a particular interest in the built environment and in made objects.
She focuses in on the way that the built environment erodes due to the passage of time or weather conditions. Another interest is in made objects, such as tools or items of clothing that become worn and need repair.
She works primarily in intaglio techniques such as etching and collagraph, liking the deep embossing achieved with these techniques. Also taking advantage of the range of inking qualities that can be utilised with working on a card or metal substrate, from thick velvety and dense areas of ink to the thinnest of ink glazes. She hand prints her work in her studio. Printing onto specialist printmaking papers such as Moulin du gue and Somerset papers. These are heavyweight papers that can withstand the printing of highly textured collagraph and etching plates.
She also makes collage pieces, these are made from papers that have been collected over the years, or printed and created especially for a particular piece. She also uses old book cloth to add to the antique quality of some pieces.
