JOHN HITCHENS
John Hitchens moved to near Petworth in Sussex as a baby in 1940, after bomb damage to the London home of his parents, artist Ivon Hitchens and his wife Molly.
John continues to live and work near Petworth. The landscape of the South Downs has remained a major influence on his work, which has encompassed not only painting, but also found-object installations, sculpture and photography.
A major retrospective exhibition ‘John HItchens: Aspects of Landscape’ was held in 2020 at Southampton City Art Gallery. The accompanying book, with photographs by Ann-Katrin Purkis, is available from Kevis House Gallery and this website. Price £45.
